In modern academic system, academic elite to a large extent constitute the principal part of academic authority. They not only play the role of gatekeeper for academic community, but also function as the mediator between academic and political (or administrative) forces. However, the ambivalent character of academic elite, as a mixture of angel and human, manifests that without the checks and balances of administrative forces or the open and transparent oversight mechanisms from the inner or outer academic community, academic authority with unrestrained power also brings us the potential risk of academic disorder. |
